Tea, forest and people in Northern Laos

Mekong Leaves emerged as a response to the need for more sustainability in the tea business. The tea industry in Europe is a strong driver of deforestation and often lives local producers in Southern countries with a miserable share of the products’ value (source).

On the other hand, in Northern Laos, local ethnics have been growing exceptional teas in harmony with the forest for centuries. Their amazing know-how has created high quality teas that are produced within dense forests, from local tea seeds collected in the forest.

Mekong Leaves’ goal is to bring these unique teas to European consumers. All teas are sourced directly from cooperatives and local producers who produce tea in harmony with the forest. These teas are either grown within natural and dense forests, or produced in agroforestry gardens, rich in biodiversity.
